MANAGER: FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES – WESTERN CAPE – SOMERSET WEST

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The Manager: Fire and Emergency Service is accountable for ensuring the implementation of the most effective fire related mitigating measures necessary for the protection of company assets, processes and employees through the application of the latest fire related safety techniques, technologies and standards. This position will oversee and manage the Somerset West & Wellington sites.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Ensure participation and compliance with; FPA , RWM Fire Guideline, local SANS Standards and Local By-Laws
  • Implementation of Prevention Measures and Fire Risk Assessments for the Site.
  • Maintain/Improve Insurance Ratings Of Site
  • Maintenance and inspection of Fixed & portable fire equipment, testing of Vehicles and Equipment
  • Maintenance of fixed fire detection and sprinkler installations.
  • Training of Emergency Co Coordinators For The Site, Fire Department Team, Plant Fire Team and Admin Staff
  • Planning & participation in fire drills, Response to Incidents and Standby for Tests & High Risk Activities and ensure Vehicle & Equipment Availability
  • Compile & administer Emergency Reponses Plans
  • Member of Joint Planning Committee (JPC) & Joint Operations Committee (JOC)
  • Manage and execute the Opex as Budgeted
  • Plan for Capex as required and ensure all transactions are correctly captured.
  • Performance Management Contracts for all Staff
  • Resolving Staff complaints and grievances & Effective time management
  • Effective strategic leadership initiatives and change management implementation

POST REQUIREMENTS:

  • Diploma in Fire Technology through SAESI or IFE,
  • Fire Fighter 2 & Hazmat operational Certificate
  • Fire Officer 1/Fire Instruction 1/Fire Prevention/Fire Investigation qualifications will be advantageous.
  • 5-7 years’ experience working in a manufacturing / chemical environment performing a similar type role.
  • 3 years should have been in a supervisory/managerial role
  • Knowledge of fire Safety bylaws, Disaster Management
  • Act, Fire protection Regulations, Fire Brigade Services Act, SANS Standards & codes of practices.
  • Knowledge or hazardous material management, safe handling & storage of chemical substance, sprinkler and fire detection systems
  • Driver’s license, Code C1 (Code 10) is essential.
  • Willingness to work overtime and travel
